Day 5

Went to the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne, was pretty expensive for a museum, but was well worth it. Could have spent most of the day in there if we had the time, especially if we actually read any of the exhibit descriptions. First we looked at trains, and there was tons of those. You could walk through the engine rooms in some of them, and there were all sorts of specialized varieties, like the icebreaking one in the bottom of the photos.

The miniature models were also very impressive all around. Many of them were massive and very detailed, such as the mountain range one pictured near the top.

The car area had a lot of info about traffic safety and about crash tests, and a big variety of cars. There was a lot of strange modern art in there too, such a city made of stacked electronic devices (DVD players, computer power supplies etc), with wee toy cars driving around it (pictured). Unfortunately since it was pretty dark in there, and a lot of things were behind glass, it was pretty hard to get good photos.

Boat area had a lot of models, some engines, some deep sea diving gear, some steampunk art etc.

Plane area had a ton of old battle and stunt planes suspended from the ceiling, with a few helicopters, gliders, and even a satellite too. Had some models of Da Vinci's ideas too. Probably the most impressive thing was a huge passenger plane they had on stilts outside, which you could even walk around inside.

The museum buildings themselves were decorated in a very interesting way; with road signs and vehicle wheels. There was even a bit where you could watch staff restore old vehicles (they were working on the back half of a submarine when we were there).

So yeah, tons of things to see there. I've skipped quite a lot as well, as I could talk for ages, and the photos only show a
small selection.

Definitely the best museum I've ever visited, and wish we had a bit more time to spend there.
